How to Participate
Step 1
Join our project on iNaturalist.
If you don’t already have an iNaturalist account, making one is easy!
Click here to make an account.
You can also download iNaturalist to your mobile device via the App Store or Google Play for easy observation uploading.
Step 2
Observe! You can participate in Harvester Hunt by actively searching outdoor spaces, or by keeping a watchful eye during your regularly scheduled activities. Wherever you see ants, be sure to take a picture and make a note of your location (with coordinates, if possible! Coordinates can be found by using smartphone GPS applications).
While harvester ants are our species of focus, submissions for species other than harvester ants are welcome. Additionally, feel free to submit your observations even if you aren’t sure of the species you found.
Whether you’re a seasoned scientist or a novice naturalist, identifying harvester ants is easy!

Step 3
Submit your photos to the Harvest Hunt iNaturalist project!
Both the individual and city with the most observations documented on iNaturalist during the observation period (Oct 30 – Nov 13) will be announced as winners on our website and on Instagram. Happy hunting!
